As LOPE-C (Large-area, Organic & Printed Electronics) 2013 prepares to open its doors at Messe Munchen in Munich, Germany today, organic and printed electronics industry leaders are looking forward to showcasing the latest innovations and products from the industry. The conference, sponsored by the OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association) and Messe Munchen, has a busy slate of talks scheduled for June 12, beginning with the Plenary Session. After opening remarks by Wolfgang Mildner, LOPE-C chairman, OE-A board member and managing director of PolyIC GmbH & Co KG, and Thomas Kreuzer, a Bavarian state leader, LOPE-C attendees will hear about the possibilities of printed electronics from Audi, CDT, Thin Film Electronics and others. Audi AG will be represented by Stephan Berlitz, head of lighting innovations and lighting functions, who will discuss “OLED – Challenges for Automotive Lighting.” Printed electronics components have been appearing in cars, and it is seen as a strong growth area. “OLED lighting is an important topic at Audi for interior and exterior lighting, and Audi prototypes with OLEDs will be presented,” Dr. Klaus Hecker, OE-A managing director, said. Dr. Jeremy Burroughes, chief technology officer of CDT, will talk on “Organic Electronics Research at CDT,” and Thin Film Electronics CEO Dr. Davor Sutija will offer his thoughts on “A Smarter Everyday Powered by Printed Electronics.” After the Plenary Session, the June 12 conference breaks into Technical and Science Conferences, each with two concurrent tracks. On the technical side, energy, production, equipment, materials, flexible displays and touch screens are the focus: • Energy – Generation and Storage: Technology Advances on OPV and Battery Technology, which includes discussions from Technical University of Denmark, Belectric OPV GmbH, Enfucell Ltd. and VARTA Microbattery GmbH. • Upscaling Production – Experience with Processing Methods and Equipment, which includes talks from FUJIFILM Dimatix, Inc., Plastic Logic GmbH and AIXTRON SE. • Equipment II, featuring speakers from InnovationLab GmbH, Bosch Rexroth and Coatema Coating Machinery GmbH. • Advancements in Flexible Displays for eWriter Applications, including talks by Kent Displays, Yonsei University and E Ink. • Touch Screens and Surfaces, which includes presenters from Heraeus Precious Metals GmbH & Co. KG, Canatu and Cima Nanotech. • High Performance Materials, Applications and Processing, with speakers from University of Tokyo, Konica Minolta Advanced Layers, UCLA and Merck Chemicals Ltd. Among the topics of the Science Conference are: • Thin Film Transistors, with speakers from Joanneum Research Forschungsgesellschaft mbH, University of California, Berkeley, CSEM SA, and Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen. • Printing and Patterning I, including presenters from DuPont Teijin Films, Semilab Semiconductor Physics Laboratory Co. Ltd., Micronic Mydata, Roth & Rau B.V., and Ghent University). • Organic Materials, featuring talks by Merck Chemicals Ltd. and Heraeus. • Sensor Technologies, including talks from Fraunhofer IOF, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Industrial Technology Research Institute and Holst Centre. • Energy Storage Device and Applications, featuring presentations by CEA-LITEN, Fraunhofer ENAS, and Tampere University of Technology. • Printing and Patterning II, which offers discussions by University of Southampton, Tampere University of Technology, Clear-Jet and Oxford Lasers Ltd.
